With a business improvement grant from NBSL, you could improve your website's SEO, get a whole new digital marketing strategy, or even a brand spanking new website...
Are you ready to take your small business to the next level? Now could be the perfect time, with funding grants of up to £3,200 available for County Durham-based SMEs looking to invest in their own development.
Enterprise agency NBSL has a funding pot of £1m to give away through its North East Business Support Fund throughout 2020.
If you're a small or medium sized business that pays rates in County Durham, you can apply for a business grant of up to 40% for projects costing between £2,500 and £8,000, with a maximum grant of £3,200.
Durham businesses that employ fewer than 250 people and have a turnover of less than €50m are able to apply for the NEBSF grants here.
We spoke to NBSL business funding advisor John Atkinson about the funding available.
"We started with about £1m and there's still about £350,000 to go out," says John, pictured.
"It's important to stress that, irrespective of what happens with the Brexit negotiations with Europe, the fund that we've got has been guaranteed by the UK government. So we have money available at the present point in time through to the end of 2020.
"Funding has to be allocated by December 31, so the final claims would have to be in just before Christmas. We're anticipating that projects will have to have started by the early part of September to give people time to get them submitted and their claims in by the end of the funding window."
And what are Durham businesses spending the grants on?
"Quite a lot of businesses spend the funds on marketing, and that covers a full panoply, from websites to help with developing social media strategies, branding, development of marketing collateral. Quite a few have done projects on videos."
John stresses the importance of securing professional marketing support: "You need to take professional advice and guidance, because it can be a black hole for anybody's budget if you're not sure what you're doing.
"The great opportunity we give people with this fund is, if you've got a limited budget, this can boost that spend capacity. That allows you to do more.
"Everybody's very nervous about using social media, so seeking advice and guidance and support that you're doing it well and not detracting from the brand is quite important."
