Sticking it to climate change

5 reasons we are planting trees for SMEs as we strive to become a more ethical business

At Stick Marketing we’re always looking for ways to improve – ourselves, our clients’ businesses and now: the planet.

In our efforts to become a more ethical business, we've partnered with the wonderful people at Tree-Nation, a non-profit that specialises in planting trees around the world to protect and restore forests, protecting biodiversity and creating jobs along the way.

As the Chinese proverb goes: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now. And so, we’ve done it. Not only have we collaborated with Tree-Nation to plant 131 trees in June, one for ourselves and one annually for each of our clients, we’ll be doing the same thing every year from now on.

1. We like finding practical ways to deliver long-term impact

Our business is built around helping our clients to find the most effective ways of doing things. Our creativity has purpose and we enjoy helping our clients’ businesses grow with the right campaigns and application of digital and traditional marketing thinking and approach.

2. We’re planting trees as though our lives depend on it

That’s because they do. Trees support biodiversity and biodiversity supports us.

Around 85% of all species on earth live in tropical forests, habitats that are being threatened and destroyed on an alarming scale. That includes not just animals but lichens and other plants as well as insects and other invertebrates.

3. We’re helping to create jobs with ethical businesses

Biodiversity is not just important to ensure the long-term quality and availability of the air we breath and the food we eat, it’s also important for local and global economies.

The projects Tree-Nation supports include helping farmers tackle deforestation and involving local communities in agroforestry and re-forestation projects. We help our SME clients in Durham and across the wider North East to grow their businesses, creating jobs and wealth in our region - what better way to share that?

4. We’re helping to reduce deforestation

According to Tree-Nation, deforestation is responsible for about 17% of all climate change emissions. We’re all about making an impact and when we heard that, we knew it was something we would like to help reverse.

Trees improve our air quality and reduce climate change by capturing small particles of pollution on their leaves and by absorbing carbon in the atmosphere. Trees are better at doing this than other plants and can continue to do this for centuries.

5. Striving to be a more ethical business makes us feel good

There, we said it. We care about making the world a better place. People - not products and services - are at the heart of great marketing, and we’re passionate about the world that we are leaving for our children.

Our partnership with charity Tree-Nation is the ideal way for us to put these feelings into action. We’ve committed to plant a tree each month for ourselves as well as one for every client we have, and we couldn’t feel happier about it if we tried.
